Figuring
this could be the “grand finale” for an iconic American rock and roll band, we took a deep breath and plunked down the $175 per seat expense to see The Eagles on
Thursday, May 28 at the Matthew Knight Arena on the University of Oregon campus. Dubbed “The History of the
Eagles,” their performance did not disappoint.
The
show began with principal songwriters Don Henley and Glenn Frey performing an
acoustic “Desperado.” Much to our surprise, Bernie Leadon, a founding member who
left the band in 1975 after famously pouring a beer over Glenn Frey’s head,
appeared on stage to help perform some of their early hits. Guess time can heal
some wounds.
The
show was a mix of both old and more recent hits. Was also nice to see Joe Walsh
perform hits from the days as guitarist and lead singer for James Gang, as well
as his solo career. The band played for nearly three and a half hours. The show
was well choreographed, the band was tight and we definitely got our money’s
worth.
